Support 60 Littles - $60,000 in 60 Days
YWCA of Adelaide Big Brothers Big Sisters has been operating since 2003 and this year we have supported 60 matches, our highest number of matches at one time. Since 2003 we have had a total of 260 matches, helped 350 young people and trained 450 volunteers. To celebrate this growth and achievement YWCA of Adelaide is having a fundraising campaign to raise $60,000.

Sixteen year old Sheridan Rosso kick-started the ‘Support 60 Littles - $60,000 in 60 Days Campaign.’ Showing the difference one person can make, Sheridan held her own lunch time fundraiser at Underdale High School. Sheridan organised a DJ to play, held a raffle (with donated cash and a TV as prizes) and sold donated ice creams and hot chocolate to raise much needed funds for the Big Brothers Big Sisters youth mentoring program. Sheridan also gave students information about the program and raised awareness of the difficulties vulnerable and disadvantaged young people face. The event raised over $800.00, and highlighted Sheridan’s strong community spirit and caring attitude. Sheridan was delighted with the outcome and can’t wait to be 18, so she can become a Big Sister in the program! We appreciate the amazing work of this inspiring young woman. Here are some photos of Belinda Lake (Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Manager) accepting the cheque from Sheridan at her school assembly. |

QUIZ NIGHTOn Friday 23 July, YWCA of Adelaide held its inaugural ‘Quiz Night with a Twist’, raising money for the ‘Support 60 Littles: $60,000 in 60 Days campaign.’ The night was a great success, with Kate Collins and Nathan Strempel working the 200 strong crowd beautifully as co-hosts. A special guest appearance by Kate Ellis, Federal Member for Adelaide kicked-off the night’s proceedings. Highlights of the night included an inspiring version of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m on Fire’ by Emily Davis, Clementine Ford and Jody Anderson and some mesmerising belly dancing by Tribal Belly Dance Group Ruby Dhatura. Of course, we must congratulate the winning team ‘The Joneses’, whom it seemed no-one could keep up with! We raised a total of $7141, thank you to everyone who came along to support the night. | ||
