Board

Board of Management as of November 2011:

President - Nicole Graham

Qualified with a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Management (Employee Relations), Nicole brings a wealth of skills and knowledge to the role of YWCA President. Nicole joined SCOSA in 2004 from a Human Resources role at Mitsubishi Motors. Within three years of joining SCOSA, Nicole was appointed General Manager of Workforce Planning and Development and later General Manager of Client Services. Today, she is the youngest ever CEO of SCOSA and one of the youngest CEO’s in the country.

   

Katherine Lang - Vice President

Katherine has a Degree in Construction Management and Economics (Honours) and has worked in the private and public construction sector as a Site Engineer, Contract Administrator and Project Manager for over 10 years.  Katherine is currently a Consultant Project Manager with Thinc working for several different Client groups.

Katherine brings several years of working with Boards to her role as Board Member and Vice President of YWCA Adelaide; namely the National Association of Women In Construction (NAWIC) and previously the Australian Institute of Building.  Katherine is a founding member of the South Australian Chapter of NAWIC and currently serves as a National Director.

 

 

Amy Nazar - Treasurer

Amy holds a Bachelor of Business and Commerce, majoring in professional accounting, from Monash University.  She is currently studying to become a Chartered Accountant.  Having worked for the federal government for several years, Amy moved to the commercial sector in 2009 and is currently the Finance Manager for South Australia at Mantra Group, a company that runs a network of 100 hotels throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Having worked in the accounting field for ten years, Amy brings a wealth of knowledge in financial management and reporting to her role as Treasurer of YWCA Adelaide
   
Executive Committee member convenor - Sue Averay

Sue is an experienced senior executive with substantial experience on both sides of the not-for-profit Board table. She has special expertise in the third sector, having served on Boards and Committees as well as holding senior management roles in a number of second-tier cultural organisations. She is the current chairperson of Vitalstatistix Theatre Company.

Sue has served on and chaired boards, advisory committees and review panels at State and National levels. She has consulted in organisational development, governance, strategic and business planning and human resource management for NFPs.

Currently, Sue is the Principal of Sue Averay Management Services, and supports high performance in strategy and implementation in the public and third sectors through the provision of services including planning, facilitation and management and team development.

Annetay Henderson-Sapir - YWCA National Representative

Annetay was born in a rural area in the Appalachian mountains of the United States.  She has worked construction, in kitchens, keeping children, supporting women in the community and teaching English to non-native speakers.  She has a Bachelor's degree in English, French and women’s studies from Hollins University in Virginia. After taking time away from study to teach in the Middle East, her studies brought her to Flinders University where she obtained a Master's degree with a focus on women's studies and political science.

Annetay started her career in the SA public service in the Office for Women where she promoted women’s leadership and provided support to the Premier’s Council for Women.  She is currently Chief Policy Officer, COAG, at SafeWork SA where she provides strategic advice on industrial relations and occupational health and safety issues.  She joined the board of the YWCA of Adelaide in 2008 and served as President from October 2009 to November 2011.  She also volunteers as a director on two other boards.

 

 
Marcela Perez

Marcela has had an extensive and varied career having worked in the private and public sector, in operational and corporate environments.  Marcela career has predominantly been within the mining sector, extending over seventeen years primarily with BHP Billiton’s Iron Ore operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and Newmont Asia Pacific’s Corporate Offices in Adelaide and Perth.  Marcela has extensive community relations, environmental protection, government relations, occupational health and safety, corporate sustainability, contract management and project management experience.

Through her current public sector role, Marcela provides the Health Performance Council and in turn the South Australian Minister for Health with strategic advice in relation to the Health Outcomes of South Australians, Health System Performance and Community Engagement.

Marcela has a strong interest in social responsibility and in particular advocating for young women affected by social and economic disadvantage.  Marcela hopes that as a board member she will influence corporate sector executives to give more generously of their time and participate in community development activities that encourage and promote young women to become the best that they can be.

   

Suzanne Thomas

I have been an active YWCA member since 1996 through the women’s group Workara. I was elected to the YWCA Board in November 2010. Previously, I was a director of an engineering business. Through studying Women’s Certificate III & IV in 2010, it broadened my views on women’s issues and the social injustices, so now want to empower other women.

   
Margaret Cameron

Marg Cameron is a passionate advocate for women’s issues and social justice. Her lead role as Policy Officer with the Office for Women focuses on developing gender analysis training that is appropriate to a diverse range of agencies and organisations. Her work is informed by feminist theory and practice and is aimed at providing tools to policy makers to assist in the development of policies, programs and services that allow women and men to participate fully within our community. Marg has recently completed Post Graduate study at Flinders University in Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Analysis. 

She has also been instrumental in developing and implementing a range of events and projects that reflect issues relevant to women across the wider community, including International Women’s Day, Reclaim the Night and a number of initiatives acknowledging the contribution of women in the community. She developed the inaugural 2011 Australia Day Council of South Australia Award for Women; the 2008, 2009 and 2011 SA Women's Honour Roll; and co-ordinated Sistas Yarnin’, a radio project collaboration with Radio Adelaide and Aboriginal community women.

Marg has built strong relationships with a large number of government and non-government colleagues, including public sector employees at all levels, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, disadvantaged and marginalised women, young women and women with disabilities. She is currently providing support to Women With Disabilities SA in facilitating workshops about issues for women with disabilities including violence and abuse; and with the Coalition For Men Supporting Non-Violence in their campaign to engage with men in the community about violence against women.

Marg also has extensive experience in event management and worked for over fifteen years as a marketing and publicity manager for a diverse range of arts organisations.

   
 

Georgia Heath

Georgia is a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and equality, and is currently the Manager of the Women’s Information Service in the Attorney General’s Department. Previously Georgia has held diverse roles in the areas of finance, information technology, service delivery, information management and community education, has run her own business, and has led change management and strategic planning projects in both public and community sector organisations. She is also an experienced board member having chaired both commercial and community boards.

 

Julian Roffe -YWCA of Adelaide Chief Executive

Julian joined the YWCA of Adelaide as the Chief Executive in November 2010. Julian has previous experience in the community, employment & youth sectors both in Australia & the UK. In his most recent role he was responsible for the delivery of employment services to nearly 10,000 job seekers  across the SA-WA-NT-VIC-TAS Region for one of Australia’s largest NGOs. In the UK Julian managed an award-winning One-Stop-Shop that provided young people with access to advice, guidance & counseling from experts in job placement, teenage pregnancy, sexual health, drug & alcohol, mental health & careers guidance. At the YWCA Julian is focused on strengthening the role of the “Y” as a key community service provider, as well as the leading young women’s organisation in Adelaide. He has a personal and professional commitment to improve opportunities for young women to help them fulfill their potential

 

Board elections

Board of Management elections are conducted every year at our Annual General Meeting held in October. To be eligible to vote at an Annual General Meeting you must become a voting member . Board members set the strategic direction of the YWCA of Adelaide, monitor implementation of the strategy and support the Chief Executive and staff in implementing YWCA programs.  Members elect the Board to steer the association into the future. Your membership and vote are necessary to ensure quality leadership within the YWCA of Adelaide.

The Board meets each month and has an Executive Committee to manage matters which arise between meetings.
